Maggie O’Hara was at a dead end. Her husband split for a college co-ed and as the only female deputy in a good ole boy Sheriff’s Department, her career was on the fast track to nowhere. She was irritable, trigger happy and was quickly becoming an alcoholic like her old man. Just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse—they did.
Mack Underwood ruled the county like a banana republic dictator. He’d spent years accumulating a fortune generated by controlling every aspect of the local government. The county board was bought and paid for and he had incriminating photos on most of the town fathers. He didn’t think twice about crushing anyone who got in his way. Crawford County was his kingdom and nobody was going to take it from him.
For years people considered “The Black Panther of Flat Rock” to be nothing more than an urban legend in the same vein as Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster. People who claimed to have seen the killer cat were mocked and humiliated. Logic says there’s no such animal. “It’s a myth… Nothing but a fairy tale…”
Logic said Greg Kitner had nothing to fear as he walked home on a deserted country road after a fight with his girl friend. Logic said his eyes were playing tricks on him when he saw something moving in the woods. Logic said that he shouldn’t be afraid of things that go bump in the night.
Here kitty, kitty, kitty.
