Books I've Just Finished

I just finished reading these three books on my Kindle. They were outrageously funny and I recommend them strongly. (They are a bit racy)  All of the books take place in Florida. He reads like a modern day John D MacDonald.
I'm now reading Alice of Old Vincennes. (Talk about a change of pace!)

What a difference two weeks make

Its hard to believe the ice storm was only two weeks ago. Three days without power with sub-zero temperatures. Here are some pictures I took from my back window during the storm. Fortunately my river birch tree bent but didn't break. Hopefully we're done with the bad stuff.

Another Walk

I enjoyed yesterday's walk so much I decided to take Angie a on hike this morning before the rain started. We went north from the New Harmony Inn and ended up at the same place I discovered the day before. But instead of a happy sea gull, all we found was a solitary giant buzzard sitting atop a tree. It gave a totally different vibe to the experience.

A buzzard sat atop his tree
and cast a weary eye on me.
He looked me over...up and down
then looked away with a furled frown
no time for me in his featherless head
for he prefers...his writers dead

Tastes like chicken
Good for the pickin'

A Walk in New Harmony

Yesterday, while Angie was shopping in New Harmony, I decided to go for a walk. I found a trail that lead north of town along the Wabash River. It was late afternoon and seventy degrees outside.  I hiked about two miles and never saw another human being.  I met a few old crows and a solitary sea gull who were searching the river bank for a snack. The wind was blowing and the air was washed clean by an early morning  shower. It was about as good as it gets for February in this part of the country. Her are some pictures I took along the way.

A word

"When we can begin to take our failures seriously,
it means we are ceasing to be afraid of them. It is
of immense importance to learn to laugh at ourselves."

Why?

A. Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?

B. If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it?
C. If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?
D. If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
E. Why do you press harder on the buttons of the remote control, when you know the batteries are dead?
