A Stop on the Underground Railroad

Merkle Dam and Mill on Otter Creek north of Terre Haute was used as a hiding place for runaway slaves before the Civil War on their way to Canada. This is all that remains at that location. I closed my eyes and tried to imagine the stories this place could tell. It is very peaceful there and it makes a nice place to stop and sit by the water and have a picnic.
